How to register for the NPPE

• Check that you are eligible. Your regulator decides when an applicant can write the NPPE; you do not need to have finished your experience record first.
• Register and pay through your regulator by the registration deadline for the sitting you want. The NPPE program does not take registrations itself.
• Wait for the booking window to open, then choose your date and start time within the sitting. Check the time zone carefully: booking the wrong one and missing the exam means paying a second exam fee to be rebooked.
• Run the system readiness check on the computer you will use, at least 24 hours before the exam. A failed check can cancel your registration.
• Look for your booking confirmation, which normally arrives at least three weeks before the exam.

Dates are from the official NPPE program. Your regulator may set its own internal deadline ahead of these, so confirm with them before relying on the last day. The exam dates page keeps the full list, including past sittings.

Regulators across Canada use the NPPE, and each runs its own registration. Among them:

Each regulator sets its own fee and its own limit on attempts, and handles any change to your booking. See NPPE exam fees for what is known about costs.

Before the registration deadline, you can cancel for a refund or defer to a later sitting. Deferrals remain possible until the end of the booking window. After that, a deferral has to go through your regulator and is only granted for specific circumstances: illness, a death in the family, a court appearance or military duty, for example.

The official guidance is blunt about who to call: contact your regulator to reschedule or cancel, not Meazure Learning, the company that delivers the exam.

If you need an accommodation, such as extended time, extra breaks, a reduced-distraction room at a test centre, or permission to have a diabetic monitor or food for a medical reason, request it through your regulator before the registration deadline. You will need supporting documentation from a health care or education specialist, written within a recent window that varies by regulator.

Larger font is available to everyone in the standard exam interface. The candidate guide notes that accommodations are generally not offered for English as a second language, since English competence is itself a licensing requirement. Every question is available in French, and you can switch languages during the exam.

A note on timing

If the NPPE is your last requirement before licensure, your regulator may give you a deadline to pass it. APEGA, for example, gives applicants one year from their Board of Examiners decision letter. Check whether a deadline like this applies to you before choosing a sitting.
