The NPPE study guide

The NPPE favours scenario questions that ask what a professional should do first, and the most appropriate answer is almost always the smallest, least formal step that still protects the public. A more dramatic response, such as reporting to the regulator or speaking to the media, is usually correct only after quieter steps have been tried, or when an immediate safety concern makes it the only step fast enough to matter. About half the items on the official practice test are single sentence definitions rather than scenarios, so this guide spends real time on plain definitions alongside worked examples. Reading each sub-topic with both patterns in mind, the precise meaning of a term and its place on the ladder of appropriate responses, prepares you for the shape the real questions take.

This guide follows the official NPPE syllabus and blueprint section by section, in the same order the exam weights them. The source material is the three textbooks covered on the books and study materials page, cited under each sub-topic so you can go deeper on anything the exam is likely to test. It is organized as six chapters, one per section, so you can read one at a time and come back for the next.
