NPPE for PEO (Ontario) applicants

Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) requires the same national NPPE as most other Canadian regulators. Here's what's Ontario-specific, and what to verify directly with PEO.

PEO is one of the participating regulators (the current NPPE Candidate Guide states thirteen engineering/geoscience regulatory organizations across Canada) that require the NPPE for licensure. If you're applying for your P.Eng through PEO, you write the exact same national exam as an applicant going through APEGA, EGBC, or any other participating regulator: the content does not change by province. 110 questions, 150 minutes, the six-section blueprint, the scaled pass mark of 65, and remote proctoring: identical regardless of which regulator you apply through.

What's PEO-specific

PEO's own application process, fees, experience-verification requirements, and, per some past candidate reports, the possibility of additional Ontario-specific bylaw questions beyond the national 110. Confirm the current policy directly with PEO.

Ontario's own regulatory framework

Even though the NPPE itself doesn't test Ontario statute section numbers, PEO's own regulatory framework, the Professional Engineers Act and Ontario Regulation 941, governs your practice once licensed, including professional misconduct (s.72) and PEO's Code of Ethics (s.77). Worth knowing as context, even though it isn't examined directly on the NPPE.
